The 30-Day Faith Detox – Laura Harris Smith

The 30-Day Faith Detox – Laura Harris Smith

The 30-Day Faith Detox isn’t what I expected.  I am still unsure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.  It was too wordy for me, and I felt like it made a lot of assumptions about the reader.
The 30 days is set up as a day-by-day detox.  For example:  Day 12’s spiritual toxin: Get Rich Quick.  It has a devotion style reading for that day.  Then it talks about emotional toxins.  Finally, the Correlating Physical Detox has to do with the reproductive system.  I just don’t get it.  I didn’t finish the book.  I think it might be interesting to hear Smith speak about what she thinks, but this book format doesn’t work for me.  (Sorry.)

Flirtation Walk - Siri Mitchell

Flirtation Walk – Siri Mitchell

You have no idea how much I hate not liking a book.  I truly feel that most books are great, they just might not be great for a person to read at a certain time.  I have tried to like Flirtation Walk, but I just don’t enjoy it right now.  I am bothered by the deceitfulness.  I am not able to keep up with who is who and what is what…and I really can’t figure out why.
I only got through the first several chapters, so I will put in on a shelf.  I will try to pick it up again later.  Or maybe share it in my neighborhood’s free library box.

The Goodbye Bride - Denise Hunter

The Goodbye Bride – Denise Hunter

The Goodbye Bride is the 2nd book in the Summer Harbor series.  If you haven’t read Falling Like Snowflakes, read it first. The Goodbye Bride is a story of how a person’s past influences their future.  Lucy had a great childhood until her mom died.  This led her to believe a bunch of lies about her future.  She left her fiance’, Zac Callahan, high and dry a few days before their wedding.  Needless to say, this act led to a bunch of hurt and anger.
This is a story that deals with hurt and pain.  It deals with being able to let go of the past and move on.  The story of Eden and Beau continues throughout this book.  OH!  And the story of Aunt Trudy and Sheriff Colton comes to life – or does it?! I don’t want to say much more about the story because I don’t want to spoil any of the details.
You won’t be disappointed in this book.

doodletopia CARTOONS - Christopher Hart

Doodletopia CARTOONS – Christopher Hart

I cannot draw.  I stink at it.  Doodletopia CARTOONS is a fun way to learn to draw some whimsical cartoonish pictures.  The writing in the book is almost like a conversation.  Some of the phrasing I wouldn’t want my child repeating – they aren’t horrible – but I wouldn’t want them said by my children.
Because I have never taken a formal art class, I really don’t get the draw an “x” like shape across a face then erase it.  I truly still don’t get it, but I don’t think that is the purpose of this book.  He does give many hints at the bottom of the pages.  He shows you how to easily use one shape to make a couple of different characters.
This is a fun whimsical book.  It’s light-hearted.  It’s a no-fear cartoon drawing book!  Have fun with it!

Change of Heart - Courtney Walsh

Change of Heart – Courtney Walsh

I loved Paper Hearts!  At first I didn’t know what to think about Change of Heart.  Seriously, Evelyn Brandt is married.  It truly doesn’t matter if her husband, Christopher, is horrible.  She is married.  Trevor Whitney has been “friends” with Evelyn and her scum-ball husband for years and years.
Trevor has always had feelings for Evelyn, but has kept these feelings bottled up forever.  He knows she is married, but can’t deny his feelings.  He has turned into somewhat of a grump!
They are somewhat thrown together as the news about Christopher gets revealed.  Trevor is forced to work out his feelings.  Evelyn is trying to find her feet.
To be honest, I really struggled with this book for a while.  That said, I liked it very much.  I love Walsh’s writing.  It was the subject matter that bothered me.  You see Evelyn came out of an awful home situation.  Trevor didn’t believe as a young man that he was “good enough”, and he wasn’t honest enough to make a stand when he was young.  But, seriously, how many young people are.  Trevor thought he had truly given his feelings over to God, but he realized he really didn’t.
I know this was a good book because of the emotions it invoked in me!
Read it!  I would love to know your thoughts!
